EMD’s emDRIVE combines robust motor and drive technology with EMD’s proprietary software and control electronics to create an easy-to-install hybrid electric propulsion system. emDRIVE pays for itself by reducing operation costs with its two primary functions, launch assist and regenerative braking.

Launch Assist
Provides 20 to 60kW of electric power to a conventional drive train with the accelerator depressed, saving fuel when you accelerate.

Regenerative Braking
Provides 20 to 60kW of stopping power when the brake pedal is applied. Kinetic energy now charges the energy storage system for later use instead of being wasted as unrecovered heat. In addition, brake linings last longer, decreasing maintenance costs.

There are different sizes of emDRIVE to address a variety of truck and bus applications. Each system utilizes similar core architecture and control components. emDRIVE uses advanced battery and capacitor technologies to provide efficient and low maintenance operation.
